This map represents Syria in the early twenty-first century before the conflict. It was during this period that I conducted  in-situ ethnographic fieldwork within Syria.

Syria circa 2023

This map represents changes to the borders of Syria during and after the conflict, which mostly stabilized in 2019. Wartime violence continues and boundaries remain contested.
